Ferrari World Abu Dhabi Announces Pay-By-Height Pricing and Merry-Go-Around with Never Before Seen Prototypes

This period, which will no doubt be used to sort out any kinks, will continue up to the park's official, Grand Opening in November.<br /></span><p></p><p><span style="font-family:Verdana;">Unlike most parks, which sell tickets based on age, Ferrari World Abu Dhabi's tickets will be sold according to height. The attraction will feature four design studies never before seen outside of Maranello, created by design students under the banner of, "Ferrari: new concepts for the myth". Saab said the engines will be adapted to meet the firm's specific requirements.<br /></span></p><p><span style="font-family:Verdana;">"We look forward to integrating this technology into our next-generation vehicles in a true Saab way," said Saab Automobile CEO Jan Åke Jonsson.<br /></span></p><p><a name="more"></a><span style="font-family:Verdana;">Though the two automakers did not go into any other details, it is believed that the petrol engines will be the same as the ones used in the MINI range, with at least one of them to be assembled at the BMW Group's Hams Hall engine plant in the UK. FAIL No2: Volvo V60 Safety System Flub Ends with a Dead Dummy Named Bob

That's right, two. The first one was back in May and led to a <a href="http://trends-automotive.blogspot.com/2010/07/new-volvo-v60-sports-wagon-2011-s60.html">new S60</a><a href="http://trends-automotive.blogspot.com/2010/07/new-volvo-v60-sports-wagon-2011-s60.html"> estate</a> crushing itself into the back of a truck - see the <a href="http://trends-automotive.blogspot.com/2010/05/epic-fail-2011-volvo-s60-warning-with.html">video here</a>. This latest mishap occurred during a media demonstration to Australian journalists in Europe.<br /></span><p></p><a name="more"></a><p><span style="font-family:Verdana;">Now that the known-as-safe Volvo brand is officially owned by the Chinese, is this a sign of things to come?<br /></span></p><p><span style="font-family:Verdana;">The mechanism in question is part of Volvo's pedestrian avoidance technology, which makes use of cameras and radar in the nose of the vehicle to control the brakes and stability control system in order to reduce driver/pedestrian injuries. The object that the system was meant to detect was Bob the Dummy; as you can see in the vids below, it didn't detect a damn thing.<br /></span></p><p><span style="font-family:Verdana;">That's not to say the system is terrible; after all is said and done, it worked 75% of the time. Of the twelve runs, only one ended with Bob getting the full force of the Volvo unleashed on him, with the other two still being less than perfect. Some of the blame has been placed on a camera that doesn't work well in low-light conditions (infrared / night vision, guys?).<br /></span></p><p><span style="font-family:Verdana;">Volvo's Jonas Tisell, Active Safety Systems manager, told journalists, "The failure of the test was due to the dummy not being set up properly, therefore it did not give an echo enough for the system. So the dummy was not relevant in this situation." So...blame it on the dummy? And "not relevant"? When the power steering assist stops working it requires increased force to steer the vehicle. Some drivers reported experiencing difficulty while trying to steer or control the vehicle. For the same reason that it's said to be building a new entry-level VW-based roadster: to piss off purists and elitists alike.<br /></span></p><p><span style="font-family:Verdana;">Well, actually, it's because Porsche is now controlled by VW, and the people's car manufacturer can and will do anything to help attain its lofty sales goals of 150,000 Porsche models sold (in the "medium" term).<br /></span></p><p><span style="font-family:Verdana;">A new Porsche cute ute will do just that, and will also help spread out some of the Q5's development costs. If this little sports car SUV does make it to production, it'll probably just be a smaller version of the <a href="http://trends-automotive.blogspot.com/search/label/Porsche%20Cayenne">Cayenne</a> (which shares its platform with the latest Touareg). If true, that's a shame.<br /></span></p><p><span style="font-family:Verdana;">...deep breath...<br /></span></p><p><span style="font-family:Verdana;">It's a shame because a small 5-door SUV is exactly what's expected, and Porsche doesn't seem crazy enough to put out more than one version (double-dog dare to you, Porsche).<br /></span></p><p><span style="font-family:Verdana;">If Stuttgart's fastest were to go a little zany, though, could we recommend a three-door SUV variant (with an emphasis on the <em>sport</em>) to tackle the <a href="http://trends-automotive.blogspot.com/2010/09/paris-preshow-range-rover-evoque.html">Range Rover Evoque</a>? Saab 9-4X Crossover Spied in Production Form Prior to Los Angeles debut

A 300-hp 2.8-liter V6 may also show up, and we can expect transmissions to be 6-speed manuals and automatics in a front- or all-wheel drive layout.<br /></span></p><p><span style="font-family:Verdana;">From the pics, the new Saab crossover looks to stay fairly true to the 9-4X BioPower concept by showing off Saab's new rear end styling; we can clearly see its full-width taillight setup and hockey stick C-pillar. Up front is more of the same, with the only concession appearing to be smaller front fog light openings.<br /></span></p><p><span style="font-family:Verdana;">Also, the propeller-inspired rims are a nice touch that symbolize both Saab's aviation heritage and its new ownership by Spyker.
